Part III: Drive Your Car

As an “Artrepreneur” you’re not an employee.

As such you’ll no longer be

  • told what to do
  • told how to do it
  • told when to get it done by
  • given a set of expectations to gauge progress
  • given set breaks or hours of work

  • Can You Be a Leader?

This is great, yes. But without a boss you’ll also no longer be

  • given praise on the job
  • given direction in the middle of a confusing bit
  • given answers to about next steps
  • encouraged in a rough patch
  • motivated be an authority
  • able to “leave work at work”
  • give the responsibility for failure or mistakes to your boss

    Drive & Hold the Map

Without a boss, you’re going to have to be self-motivated and self-disciplined because there’s no superior ready to write you up or pass a poor performance review to change your behaviour.

Your success and your failure will be entirely on your shoulders.

You are the director AND the actor. You set the course AND you do the work.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

If you’d prefer to be an employee (and there’s nothing wrong with that), it’s better to know BEFORE you invest years in trying to build a home-based art business that you hate.
