Let Go of Perfection

You can’t know everything about painting before you start. You cannot try to avoid mistakes by trying to learn what to do in every scenario before you begin.

You only learn by doing.

This is so important I’ll repeat it. In bold. And caps.

Art and creativity isn’t a theoretical exercise. It’s paint on paper and movement of brush and application of colour and value, texture and tone. You’ll never really understand until you actually start to paint.

There are no substitutions for this: you have to paint to learn how to paint.
